I’ve gotten quite a few emails regarding golfers losing distance on the back nine. It could be a whole host of things, but one is the tightening of the specific muscles involved in making a full backswing.
Here’s a golf backswing stretch to help you maintain a full backswingloaded with more power during your round of golf.
But first…it’s been a while since I’ve been in here answering questions, I apologize, but have been very busy with other projects.
Golf Backswing Stretch Instructions:
•Extend left arm out in front of you (if you are a right handed golfer).
•Take both hands and put on top of club.
•Drop upper body down against club to feel a stretch in your left shoulder.
•Hold for at least 15 seconds, repeat once more and do the opposite for follow thru side
Benefit to Golf Swing:
•Improve back swing and follow thru range of motion, allowing for a bigger shoulder turn and generating more club head speed.
•Stretch back of shoulder for more range, but with-in golf swing.
•Indirectly improve trunk rotation while maintaining golf posture.
This is a fantastic stretch to do every couple of wholes. You’ll keep your backswing and follow through muscles nice and loose, maintaining a higher clubhead speed (and distance) for 18 holes.
This golf stretching is just one of dozens and dozens of stretches in my Total Golf Stretching ebook.
I wanted to let you know about a really cool site that just launched. It is with my personal swing coach Bobby Eldridge. Bobby has come up with a revolutionary way to fix your faults in a matter of minutes right on your own computer. Think of it as an itunes for golf, but unfortunately, he’s not a billion dollar company that can charge a buck per song, but at $7.99 per download fix, it’s a fraction of a golf lesson with your local pro.
This site in the next 60 days will have quadruple the number of fixes, but there are 10 really good ones already uploaded and ready for you to get.
If you’re struggling with a swing fault, why not fix it now, so when your season starts, you’re already shooting lower scores than your buddies!
I am always on the lookout for credible golf improvement resources to help golfers play better golf. I have received hundreds and hundreds of emails from frustrated golfers who are ready to quit the game. In my mind, any golfer is not that far from a much better game. With that being said, a good friend of mine Peter Frank has put together 25 Free Golf Lessons that I know can help your golf game. All you’ve got to do is click right here, and insert your first name and email address, and you’ll get these golf lessons for free right in your email inbox in a matter of seconds. In the proceeding days after, you’ll also receive several other valuable reports on improving your driving distance and easy tips to lower your scores the next time you play.
I have to admit, I have not been in here in a LONG TIME. I want to start covering off season golf and what you can do to start next spring playing as good or better than you have at the end of this season. Most golfers need to end the madness and try something different. Doing the same thing and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.
Be on the lookout for a new AskGolfTrainer video real soon. Could be in the next day or two.

Lastly, I was telling my wife it was either the way I was sitting or my shirt all scrunched up, but it made me look BIG. Do I sound a little sensitive to this…LOL? I can tell you it’s the way I’m sitting, as my weight has stayed the same for 25 years (with a lot of hard work of course). Glad I got that off my chest.
I got 3 really good questions this week and hope I answered them to your liking. I invite all comments (feedback) below. If you have a pressing frustration with your golf swing, please click the Ask Golf Trainer A Question at the top of this page, and I’ll do my best to answer it in an upcoming show.
Questions relating to “on-course” hydration and nutrition, to a golf swing fault and a simple solution and another question on whether to do a golf workout before or after golf. What do the touring pros do?
I’m really having fun with this, but want to make it as good as I can for you.

I got three great questions for today’s show. First one pertaining to weight loss for golf, the second one is about golf stretching, and the last one is about golf swing technique (hint: finishing your golf swing).
I encourage you to comment below, and to click the Ask Golf Trainer A Question link at the top of this page to ask me any golf and fitness related question you have.
Three great golf questions for this segment of Ask Golf Trainer. First question relates to using the machines in a gym and not seeing improvement in driving distance or swing technique. The second one pertains to what is causing the golf swing fault of “coming out of your golf posture” at impact. The last question from a female golfer on upper back shoulder pain after the round for hours. Keep your questions coming by clicking the Ask Golf Trainer link at the very top of this page and I’ll do my best to answer it.
Also, please comment below by clicking the comment link. Now…I have a little game for you. I made a mistake in this video (actually many but they are all about being human and not a machine) see if you can find it and let us know by commenting below.
I mistakenly wore a shirt that has money depicted on it, but what you can’t see is it is a political shirt…oops! Sorry! I look forward to many more Ask Golf Trainer segments and video show.
